CBI directed to complete probe in scholarship scam in 3 months
Allahabad, July 14 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has directed the CBI to complete probe within three months in the scholarship scam of Uttar Pradesh.
Passing the order, a bench comprising Justices Amitav Lala and Shiv Shanker said, ''The matter is serious in nature involving scam of several crores of rupees in respect of the departments of Viklang Kalyan Vibhag, Samaj Kalyan Vibhag and Alp Sankhyak Kalyan Vibhag.'' The court said the time to file report by the CBI was extended by the appropriate bench of this court on the earlier occasion. The CBI counsel had requested for three months time to complete the probe.
The order was passed on a writ petition filed by Dr K L Verma, the then Kanpur district inspector of schools (DIOS).
The HC on January 22, 2002 had directed the central agency to probe the scam within four months. Thereafter, time was granted to CBI on several occasions to complete the investigation.
Now, the court has finally disposed of the case.
