Brig Singh becomes Commander of Assam Regimental Centre

Shillong, Jul 14 (UNI) Brigadier R N Singh today received the Baton of the Colonel of the Assam Regiment, passed onto him by Lt Gen K Nagraj, in an impressive function here.

The ceremony started with Guard of Honour at Quarter Guard followed by wreath laying at the War Memorial in Honour of the supreme sacrifice made by the officers and jawans of the Regiment.

A special sainik sammelan was also held where the exchange of hands of the baton took place between the outgoing and the incoming colonels of the Regiment.

Outgoing Colonel Lt Gen K Nagraj was commissioned in the Maratha Light Infantry in 1965.

He had held various important appointments like Assistant Military Secretary in Army Headquarters, Colonel General Staff of a Mountain Division, Deputy Director/General Defence Planning Staff in Ministry of Defence and many more important assignments.

He had also been an instructor in the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He also has counter-insurgency operation experiences in J&K.

At present he was the GOC-in-C South West Command. He also participated in 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak conflicts, Operation PARAKRAM and counter insurgency operations in Sri Lanka, North East and J and K.

New Colonel of the Regiment Brig R N Singh was commissioned into 7 Assam Regiment in 1975. During his 30-year-long service he had held many command and staff appointments like commanding 1 Assam Regiment, 35 RR (Assam) and also commanded a Mountain Brigade in J&K. He was presently holding the post of Brigadier,Administration, Headquarters 1 Crops.
