1857 mutiny: Correct flaw in CBSE syllabus, says Chouhan
Bhopal, July 14 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has regretted that the first war of independence in 1857 is still termed as mutiny in the CBSE social science text book of class 10 and urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to correct the flaw.
Raising the issue at a meeting called by the Prime Minister in New Delhi yesterday to plan the 150th anniversary celebrations of the 1857 uprising, Mr Chouhan suggested that stipend be provided to the descendants of the 1857 war heroes and more material on fredom struggle should be included in text books.
Recalling the sacrifice of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi, Rani Avantibai of Ramgarh, Raja Bhaktbal of Shahgarh, Raja Shankar Shah of Jabalpur and Raghunath Shah in 1857 war, the Chief Minister said the state government had already instituted awards in the name of Shankar Shah and Raghunath Shah.
Pointing out that many functions are scheduled to mark the centenary celebrations of Chandra Shekhar Azad, he said 'Vande Mataram' rendering was organised at the Mantralaya and district collectorates across the state on the first working day of every month.
