London, July 13 (UNI) Forced to dive in to rescue the World Cup trophy in a ''badly organised'' presentation ceremony, UEFA President Lennart Johansson said champions Italy went completely out of control during the function leading to chaos at the podium.

The UEFA chief, who was supposed to hand over the trophy to German President Horst Koehler during the ceremony, said he was not impressed with the country's organisation of the event.

The World Champions had been allowed to touch the trophy before being presented to them by Koehler and they responded by kissing it and putting an Italian hat on it.

''It was so badly organised. I had been asked to hand over the cup to the president of Germany so that he could hand it over to the captain of the winning team,'' Johansson told the 'Daily Telegraph' about the sequence of events which preceeded the alleged chaos.

He said the Italians should have been restrained from going out of control during the event.

''Nobody controlled the Italians when they got on to the podium.

I had to dive in to rescue the cup and give it to the president,'' he recalled.
