Vadodara's Chhani area declared cholera-hit as 9 peo tested positive

Vadodara, July 13 (UNI) The district authorities have declared Chhani Nagarpalika on the outskirts of the city as cholera-hit with nine people testing positive for the disease during the last five days.

Admitting that there was an outbreak of the water-borne disease in Chhani having a population of over 25,000, district health department sources said of the 350 people treated for gastroenteritis during the period, more than 50 were still admitted to the Chhani Public Health Centre (PHC).

Besides, about a dozen victims have been shifted to the SSG hospital here following deterioration in their condition, sources said.

According to chief district health officer Dr P B Itare, medical teams have rushed to the spot and a door-to-door survey is on in and around Chhani as part of the health care measures to combat the disease.

Stating that the disease has spread because of water contamination, Mr Itare said all necessary steps were being taken to check it and people were being provided with Chlorine tablets and safe drinking water.
