Two militants killed in encounter

Imphal, Jul 13 (UNI) Two militants were killed in an encounter between Assam Rifles and United National Liberation Front (UNLF) at Khabam Chumbreithong in Imphal last night, official sources today said.

Two hardcore militants were killed in the encounter, they said.

Based on specific information provided by Khabam Lamkhai villagers about two UNLF cadres in the area, an Assam Rifles team was pressed into action.

One of the cadres fired with a pistol at the security personnel resulted in a gunfight during, which both the cadres were gunned down on the spot.

One Chinese 9 mm pistol and two live rounds of ammunition have been recovered from the possession of the slained cadres, the statement added.

The bodies had been kept at RIMS morgue.
