TN Govt earns Rs 3.66 cr curbing illegal sand-quarrying

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu July 13 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Government has earned an increased revenue of Rs 3.66 crore so far following the stern action taken by the Kancheepuram District Collector Pradeep Yadav to curb illegal sand-quarrying in the last three months.

According to Mr Yadav, drastic steps have been taken to remove the sand-quarrying menace with the active cooperation of the State Government. Constant monitoring and round-the-clock vigil is in progress to nab the offenders. About 216 vehicles were impounded.

Mr Yadav had also ensured that Rs 50,95,560 as fine was imposed on lorry owners, who indulged in illegal sand-quarrying and appreciated the timely steps taken by the police.

People indulging in the crime will be arrested under the 'Goondas Act', he warned.

Efforts were on to completely eradicate illegal sand-quarrying in this district, he added.
