TB Control progranmme successful in Mizoram

Aizawl, Jul 13 (UNI) The Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) has been a great success with more than 98 per cent affected persons healed.

In the second quarter 2006 review meeting on the RNTCP today, Health officials reported that of the 136 persons found to be Tuberculosis (TB) positives 127 has been healed.

Among 413 patients, who showed symptoms of TB, but found negative of TB bacteria 406 were healed, the officials said.

The review meeting held at the I&PR conference hall here was attended by Dr Dhrubajyoti Deka, a WHO consultant for the NE India.

Expressing hopes that the meeting would bring about positive results, Dr Deka said Mizoram is one the best among NE states in controlling TB and urged the TB officers to make more efforts for a cent per cent success.

The meeting was well attended district TB officers, accountants, senior treatment supervisors (STSs) and senior TB laboratory supervisors (STLSs).

A Random Blinded Rechecking Slides has also been held at the TB Hospital at Zemabawk as part of External Quality Assurance initiated by the Centre.

According to the officials, five persons are newly affected by TB daily in Mizoram.

The officials stressed on the need to launch awareness campaign on the disease.
