Lucknow, July 13 (UNI) With assembly elections around the corner, politics in Uttar Pradesh is hotting up over a controversial poster of state chief minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in certain pockets of the state.

State PWD minister and SP general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav today said the poster was in 'bad' taste and it depicts the degrading of politics.

''Frustrated people, afraid of the growing popularity of SP are bend upon hitting below the belt, which is not good for democracy,'' he observed.

After a local daily published a photo showing a man helping the CM wear his shoes when he went to Nadwa recently, some people have printed the image on posters with a caption saying this is the status of Muslims in UP.

Commenting on the yesterday's mysterious death of the sole eye-witness in the murder case of Krishnanad Rai in Ghazipur, Mr Yadav said police was investigating the matter and the guilty would not be spared.

Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Forum (AIMF) alleged a conspiracy by the state CM in the photo issue to insult the community.
