SC seeks explanation on official bungalows situation

New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Secretaries General of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seeking an explanation about the action taken for getting vacated the official accommodation from 30 MPs and former ministers, who are occupying official bungalows above their entitlement.

The Court issued notices as it was not satisfied with the details given in the additional affidavit filed by Mahinder Singh, Deputy Director of Estates, Ministry of Urban Development.

According to the affidavit, out of 36 MPs 5 have been allotted accommodation with the approval of the Cabinet Committee for Allotment (CCA). One MP had vacated the bungalow.

The affidavit is silent about the action taken against the remaining thirty MPs.

According to the affidavit all 36 cases were referred to the respective House Committees to provide entitled accommodation to these members enabling them to vacate the above entitlement general pool accommodation.

However, no accommodation has yet been allotted to them by the House Committees.

A bench comprising Justice B N Agarwal and Justice P P Naolekar directed the two General Secretaries to file their response to the notice within six weeks.

The former minister and MPs mention in the list include--George Fernandis, Ajit Singh, Sharad Yadav, former Rajya Rajya Sabha Chairperson Najma Heptullah, Murli Manohar Joshi, Arun Jaitley, M Vaenkiah Naidu, Yashvant Sinha, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Ram Jaithmalani, Amar Singh and others.
