Railway revenue earnings zoom by 14.22 per cent
New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) The Railways continued with its growth momentum, registering a total earning of Rs 14858.60 crore during April-June this year, which is an increase of 14.22 per cent.
The figures were Rs 13008.40 crore during the same period last year, a Railway Ministry official said today.
The gross goods earnings went up from Rs 8605.58 crore during April-June 2005 to Rs 9973.91 crore during the coresponding period this fiscal, showing an increase of 15.90 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during April-June this year were Rs 4347.26 crore as compared to Rs. 3979.30 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 9.25 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 397.20 crore as compared to Rs 292.43 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 35.83 per cent.
The sundry earnings also went up to Rs 140.23 crore from Rs 131.09 crore during the period, up 6.97 per cent.
The Railways carried 1575.65 million passengers during the first quarter of this fiscal as compared to 1465.32 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 7.53 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during the period were 850.29 million and 725.36 million as compared to 806.23 million and 659.09 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.46 per cent and 10.05 per cent, respectively.
