Pakistan condemns Israeli attack on Beirut
Islamabad, July 13 (UNI) Pakistan today strongly condemned the Israeli air strikes on Lebanon and described it as a flagrant violation of the UN charter.
''We strongly condemn the attack on Beirut airport resulting in loss of innocent lives and widespread damage to property and infrastructure,'' said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tasneem Aslam.
This attack is a flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and contravenes the norms and principles of the UN Charter, Mr Aslam said adding that the aerial bombardment of Beirut airport and the naval blockade of Lebanese waters announced by the Israeli Government represent a dangerous escalation.
''We have also watched with deep concern the Israeli attacks on Gaza which resulted in enormous loss of both life and property,'' she added.
Ms Aslam said the latest Israeli aggression against Palestinian territories and Lebanon has undermined hopes and efforts for peace in the region.
''The situation demands restraint and a return to diplomacy and negotiations,'' she said and asked the UN Security Council and major powers to act immediately and resolutely to stop the attacks.
