MK welcomes Arjun's Singh's statement on Muslim reservation

Chennai, July 13 (UNI) DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today welcomed Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh's statement that Muslims were entitled to reservation under the Constitution and appealed to him to pursue the matter.

In a letter to Mr Singh, a copy of which was released to the press here, Mr Karunanidhi recalled the Minister's remarks at the end of a two-day meeting of the National Monitoring Committee for Minorities Education at New Delhi that Muslims were entitled for reservation and said he wholeheartedly welcomed this concept.

''I have already discussed with Congress President Sonia Gandhi the issue of reservation for minorities, especially Christians and Muslims,'' he pointed out.

''I request you to puruse this matter further so that there is specific reservation for Christians and Muslims, as they have been demanding it for a very long tme,'' Mr Karunanidhi said.
