Man looted and shot dead

Guwahati, July 13 (UNI) A person was looted and shot dead by some unknown persons in broad daylight here.

According to the police, Manik Sarkar, an employee of Taneja&Co, was on his way to deposit Rs 1.5 lakh in the Allahabad Bank branch of Machkhowa area when he was shot at point blank range by the miscreants yesterday.

The miscreants then decamped with the money.

Police have sealed all the exit routes of the city after the incident.

However, it is still not clear whether it was a mere robbery or some extortion related case involving militants operating in the city.
