Legislature pays tributes to Vasant Chavan

Mumbai, July 13 (UNI) Cutting across party lines, members from both the sides in the Legislature today paid rich tributes to veteran NCP leader and Rajya Sabha MP the late Vasant Chavan.

Mr Chavan was the MLA from 1980 to 1985 and MLC from 1986 to 2004.

He became a Rajya Sabha MP from 2004 and was serving till his death on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh moved a resolution in Assembly mourning his death, while Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Patil tabled the same in Council.

In Council, Leader of the Opposition Pandurang Phundkar, Shiv Sena's Madhukar Sarpotdar and Gurunath Kulkarni (NCP) expressed their views on the departed leader.

In Assembly, senior Sena leader Datta Nalavade and others spoke.

The members described Mr Chavan as the leader having friends and good relations in all the parties.
