JAC to hold dharna on pay issue

Pondicherry, Jul 13 (UNI) A joint action committee (JAC) of engineers of the government departments today took strong exception to the reported move of the government to provide junior engineers of the electricity department with a basic pay of Rs 6500.

Committee convener Ezhilvanan told reporters here that junior engineers in all other departments were getting a basic pay of Rs5,500.

The government's move would lead to discrimination, he said and demanded that if the basic pay of the JEs in electricity department was enhanced it should be implemented to the JEs in all other departments.

The JAC would hold a dharna in front of the Territorial Assembly on July 17, followed by another dharna on July 27 and a one-day strike on July 28 to press their demands.
