Initiate 'capacity buiding measures' to stop discontentment: Lapang

Shillong, July 13 (UNI) Admitting that discontentment prevailed within the Congress legislators in Meghalaya, former Chief Minister D D Lapang today asked his successor J D Rymbai to initiate 'capacity building measures' with these members.

''I have told Mr Rymbai to ease discontentment within the legislators by holding consultations with them so that the problem could be sorted out,'' Mr Lapang said.

Saying that the change of guards in Meghalaya was mainly due to downsizing of the ministry, the former Chief Minister said, resentment and dissatisfaction among the legislators would continue in Meghalaya and even in other states for this reason.

''The resentment and dissatisfaction of any legislator who is not accommodated in the ministry would stay alive,'' Mr Lapang, also the President of North East Congress Committee, said.

''I had stepped down because of this issue,'' he said urging the Centre to sort out this problem to ensure political stability.

However, the former Chief Minister denied any move to topple the Rymbai government.

''I have suggested them ( Congress loyalists) to sort out differences with Mr Rymbai, instead of making rooms for further discontentment'', he said.

Earlier, Chief Minister J D Rymbai admitted of unhappiness within the party for not including some Congress MLAs in the ministry and said he would make all efforts to sort out this problem.
