Indirect polls for local body posts Jul 14

Pondicherry, Jul 13 (UNI) As many as 123 posts in municipalities and commune panchayats will be filled up through indirect elections tomorrow.

According to offical sources, municipal vice-chairmen, commune panchayat vice-chairmen and village panchayat vice-presidents would be elected through indirect polls.

Municipal chairmen and village panchayat presidents cannot cast their votes in the indirect elections and hence, 1,035 elected representatives will exercise their franchise tomorrow.

The elections had already been notified and the filing of nomination papers, scrutiny and withdrawal will be done before noon tomorrow.

Elections, if needed, would be held in the afternoon,they added.
