Govt Med college to start from next year: Rangasamy

Pondicherry, Jul 13 (UNI) The Pondicherry government medical college would start functioning from next year, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the construction of Rs 100 crore building for the medical college was in progress.

He said the issue of allocation of government quota in private medical colleges was amicably settled following discussion with the managements yesterday.

As per the agreement, the government would get 280 seats in the seven private medical colleges to be filled with the students selected through the centralised admission committee.This is 80 seats more than the last year's 200, he added.

The Vinayaga Mission medical college, Karaikal and Arupadaiveedu Medical Colleges had offered 18 seats each,the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science and the Mahatma Gandhi Medical Colelge and Research Institute 22 each, Manakkula Vinayagar Medical College 50 seats, the Lakshminarayana Medical College and Venkateswara Insititute of Medical Science had offered 75 seats each. With this, the issue of admission to the local students in MBBS courses was amicably settled,he said.
