Free ration rice from July 15: Rangasamy

Pondicherry, July 13 (UNI) The Pondicherry administration would commence supply of free rice to all ration cards holders from July 15, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said today.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Rangasamy said every ration card holder would get 10 kg of free rice every month and it would commence on July 15 at a function near the Kamaraj statue. The exchequr would incur an additional expenditure of Rs 36 crore per annum on this account, he said.

On the provision of free colour television sets, he said a committee had been constituted for the purpose which would also be implemented soon.

Mr Rangasamy said he had convened a meeting of the merchants and others concerned who assured to keep the prices of essential commodities in check.The price of rice would be kept in control, he said.

Mr Rangasamy said adequate funds would be allocated to the local bodies to take the Union Territory on the path of development.
