Commissioner allays fears on security.

Chennai, July 13 (UNI) The opposition AIADMK today urged the city police to provide extra security at crowded places in the city, as AIADMK party headquarters had received anonymous phone calls from different phone numbers saying that five hard core terrorists had infiltrated into the city, and they might plant bombs.

In his complaint to the city police commissioner, former AIADMK Minister and Party's headquarters secretary D Jayakumar MLA said, though the police claimed additional security was provided in the city, they should further beef up the security measures, and hold a through enquiry about the anonymous phone calls and submit the five telephone numbers to the police for investigation.

When newsmen approached the City police commissioner Ms Latika Saran and asked her about Mr Jayakumar's complaint, she said that there was no threat to Chennai city. However she said, they had already commenced their investigations on the complaint of the AIADMK. They found that one of the phone numbers belonged to popular Tamil film Star Shivakumar while another was a mobile phone from Andhra Pradesh.

She said efforts were on to find out who had made the calls to the AIADMK party office from the actor's phone as well as the mobile phone from Andhra Pradesh, besides to locate the details of other three telephone numbers.

She said people need not worry as Chennai has been brought under the security cover in the wake of the Tuesday's serial bomb blasts at Mumbai. The city police has beefed up further the security measures in the city as per the suggestions of the central intelligence agencies.

She said security was also tightened in all the crowded places in the city including the T Nagar and Pondy Bazzar areas.
