Cattle smuggler killed in BSF firing
Barrackpore, Jul 13 (UNI) A Bangladeshi cattle smuggler was killed in BSF firing today near Angrial under Gaighata police station in 24 North Paraganas district of West Bengal, police said.
The smuggler was gunned down when he was trying to escape with a pair of cows.
Every month around 400 to 500 cattles were smuggled to the neighbouring country.
The Bangladesh market has a huge demand for the cattle meat and the hide is used to manufacture leather products.
The smugglers involved in the whole trade then bring along the tallow of the cattle which is used to make saops and cosmetics.
Police said the rampant illegal activity is difficult to check as there is no proper border line between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the senior officials of BDR and BSF have called a flag meeting to pacify the untoward situation created due the killing of the person.
