US hopes for Iran UN resolution next week-US official

PARIS, July 12 (Reuters) The United States hopes a UN Security Council resolution passes next week that tells Iran it is mandatory for it to suspend its uranium enrichment activity, a senior US official said today.

After world powers warned Iran earlier today that that they would seek a resolution, debate on the measure at the United Nations would start on Monday, the State Department official added.

''We hope it is going to be passed next week,'' said the official, who requested anonymity because his remarks went further than the world powers' official statement.
