Tribunal delaying award alleges TNCC President
Chennai, July 12 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President M Krishnasamy today alleged conspiracy by the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal to delay its final award on the vexed cauvery issue.
Addressing a press conference here, he sought DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's intervention to ensure that the final award of the tribunal was pronounced without any further delay.
Sixteen years had passed by since the interim award in 1991 directed Karnataka to release 205 TMC ft of water per year to Tamil Nadu. But the Tribunal was yet to give its final verdict.
''The recent split verdict and the differnces of opinion between the Tribunal Chairman and its members has further delayed the final verdict. This only showed that there seemed to be a conspiracy to defer the pronouncement of the final verdict'', he charged.
Mr Krishnasanmy also announced that a MPs delegation from Tamil Nadu would meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh seeking early announcement of the final verdict.
To a question, the TNCC Chief said the present alliance would continue for the ensuing Local body polls in the State.
He also said there was nothing wrong in Congress leader and Union Minister E V K S Elangovan's remarks demanding more seats for the party in the local body polls. ''It will be discussed at the time of electons'', he added.
Mr Krishnasamy described as ''absurd'' and ''uncivilised'', AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa's criticism of Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on the AIIMS imbroglio.
He said the 104th Birth anniversary celebrations of late leader K Kamaraj would be celebrated on July 15 in which Mr Karunanidhi, Union Ministers and senior Congress leaders would participate.
He also condemned the yesterday's serial bomb blasts at Mumbai and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
