Tension prevailing in North District Headquarters
Agartala, Jul 12 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the entire Kailashashar, district headquarters of the North District, since last night after one dreaded Bangladeshi smuggler was seriously injured when BSF jawans fired upon him.
The incident occurred when a patrolling party of the BSF challenged a five-member gang when they were entering into the Indian side with smuggled goods. The gang attacked the BSF jawans with sharp weapons. In retaliation, the jawans fired on the gang injuring one seriously.
Other members of the gang, however, managed to cross-over to Bangladesh. The injured was rushed to the Kailashahar Hospital.
When asked whether there was any firing from the Bangladesh Rifles(BDR) on the BSF, a top official of the BSF said that there was no firing between the BSF and BDR.
"Some gunshots were heard inside the Bangladesh territory last night. It may be due to some flush-out operations or maybe a case of misfiring," said the official. He further added that the situation was tense, but under control.
