Srinath narrowly misses gold in Dubai

Chennai, July 12 (UNI) World Under-12 Champion N Srinath narrowly missed the overall title and finished second in the Dubai Junior Chess Championship which concluded in the Gulf country today.

The Chennai lad, who won the world title at France last year, finished second overall while retaining the Under-12 title.

Top seed IM Eltaj Safarli of Azerbaijan won the overall title in the tournament with eight points from nine rounds.

Srinath scored 7.5 points, winning seven and losing one. The other game was drawn. The 146-player event included 22 Indians.

Three Indians -- Udeshi Aditya, Fenil Shah and Dhruv Hingorani -- were tied for the eighth to 17th places with 6.5 points, according to information received here today.
