South-west monsoon active over Kerala and Lakshadweep
Thiruvananthapuram, July 12 (UNI) The South-west monsoon has been active over Kerala for the past 24 hours with heavy rains lashing several parts of the state and also the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
As the rains intensified, severe sea erosion had been reported from some of the coastal districts.
Rain occurred at most places in Kerala and Lakshadweep with Kochi Airport and Piravam reporting a heavy rainfall of seven cm each.
Other chief amounts of rainfall in cm are Kochi and Kozha six each; Kannur, Karipur airport, Thalassery, Alappuzha, Kochi airport, Varkala, Mankobu, Enamakkal, and Kunnamkulam five each.
Forecast valid until Friday morning: rain will occur at most places in Kerala and at many places in Lakshadweep.
The local Met office warned of isolated heavy rains in many parts of the State and Lakshadweep.
It also said strong onshore winds from westerly direction with a speed of 45-55 kmph would blow along the Kerala coast and Lakshadweep.
