SEZs not to help small IT industries: Infosys
Bangalore, July 12 (UNI) The Special Economic Zones (SEZs) being created in the country will not be of much help to small IT industries, but only benefit real estate hoarders, IT major Infosys Human Resources Head Mohandas Pai opined today.
Talking to reporters after the company announced its first quarter results of the current fiscal, he said what the booming small and medium IT based companies in the country needed was a regulatory mechanism like Software Technology Parks and not SEZs.
He said ''The SEZs will lead to a number of restrictions and the real estate people owning the space will demand high rent. This may result in a serious threat to small time IT companies,'' he added.
Mr Pai said IT companies were generators of incremental employment and had to be given a helping hand by the governments.
But SEZs were not the solution, he added.
He said Infosys Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy had already held talks with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union IT and Communication Minister Dayanidhi Maran in this regard and urged them to ensure that proper guidelines were laid down for setting up of SEZs in the country.
