Sengupta, Winnie Mandela commissioners at US truth commission

New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Renowned economist Arjun Sengupta and Winnie Mandela of South Africa are to serve as Commissioners at the National Truth Commission on Human Rights Violations in the US.

Dr Sengupta and Ms Mandela, the ex-wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela, join other international leaders on the Commission at a three-day event organised by the Poor People Economic Human Rights Campaign to highlight poverty and human rights violations faced by the Americans.

At the Commission meeting to be held in Cleveland from Sunday, the participants will give testimony of violations to the rights to food, housing, health care, education, communication and jobs, an official release said.

Local and international leaders will serve as Commissioners to hear the testimonies and draw findings at the conclusion of the event.

Dr Sengupta, the Chairman of the National Commission on Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector, is a United Nations independent expert on human rights and extreme poverty.
