Security reviewed at Karippur airport

Kozhikode, Jul 12 (UNI) Authorities today held an emergency meeting to review security arrangements at the Karippur International Airport near here in the wake of the Mumbai serial bomb blasts which claimed many lives in the megapolis yesterday.

Director R Veeraswami said the Airport Security Committee comprising local police, Central Industrial Security Force and representatives of airlines and oil companies discussed ways and means to further tighten security and ensure smooth flight operations at the airport.

Meanwhile, security has been further beefed up in and around the city, which was rocked by two powerful bomb blasts a few months ago, police said.

Sniffer squads have been pressed into service at all important places, including railway stations, bus stations and lodges in the city, they said.

Combing operations, under the direct supervision of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (North) V Shanta Ram, were conducted on board the trains arriving at Kozhikode railway station.
