Security beefed up at temples in Tiruchirapalli

Tiruchirapalli, July 12 (UNI) Security has been strengthened in all important and historic temples, overbridges, Central government offices and other vital installations in the district in the wake of serial bomb blasts in Mumbai.

Police said armed policemen were posted at the entrance of the historic Sri Ranganataswamy temple at Srirangam, Sri Jambukeshwarar-Akhilandeswari temple at Tiruvanikovil, Arulmegu Mariamman temple at Samayapuram and Sri Uchipuliyar temple atop the Rockfort.

All the devotees entering the temples were being frisked by the security personnel.

Special police protection was given to the world's tallest temple tower (Rajagopuram) of Sri Ranganathaswamy temple at Srirangam near here. Also tight security arrangements have been made at the Tiruchirapalli Railway Jn, International Airport and the Central Bus stand here, police added.
