Security at Balaji temple in Tirumala tightened
Tirupati July 12 (UNI) Security was beefed up in the Venkateswara swamy temple in Tirumala, and other important temples in Chittoor district following the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai.
District Superintenent of Police V Gopal Krishna told UNI that besides the existing security force at important temples in the district, 50 additional armed police personnel were deployed at the Balaji temple in Tirumala, Sri Kalahasthiswara temple in Srikalahasti and Varasidda Vinayaka temple in Kanipakam.
Besides strengthening security at railway stations and other vital installations in the district, policemen were posted in other places of worship, including mosques, he added.
Patrolling was intensified and strict vigil is being maintained at all the entry points of the temple town.
Tirumala Temple Vigilence Squad Officer Nagur Reddy said security was beefed up inside and outside the Venkateswara swamy temple at Tirumala and other temples in Tirupati.
He said bags of the devotees were fully screened before allowing them to enter the temple.
