Police lathicharge on student organisation activists

Hyderabad, July 12 (UNI) Police resorted to lathicharge on activists of several student organisations, who were staging a dharna in front of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University campus today, demanding the Andhra Pradesh government to reduce the fees for the engineering courses.

Police resorted to lathicharge when the students attempted to enter the campus. Several activists of the student organisations like AISF, SEI, and PDSU were injured in the cane charge. Police arrested some activists from the spot.

The government had increased the fees for engineering couses from this year in government and private colleges. Several political and student organisations opposed the government's decision and termed it as 'corporatisation' of higher education in the state.
