Pensioners face problems while withdrawing money

Imphal, July 12 (UNI) The pensioners in Manipur are having a horrid time while withdrawing pensions due to lack of a proper policy.

The pensioners complained of waiting for long hours in a queue before the State Bank of India counter here.

The affected people said they were just two counters, one for below Rs 5000 and the other for above Rs 5000. While many people including the aged wait for hours till their names are announced.

Some pensioners alleged that names were announced just once, which could not be heard clearly amongst the crowd and if anyone failed to respond, the person had to return the next day for collecting their pension.

A bank official said the Treasury office sends more than 200 pension cases daily and there were just two persons to handle the papers.

State government officials said they were trying ease the pressure on the banks by distributing the pensions through various nationalised banks. The government has also decided to distribute the pension through the Treasury office at the district level.
