Ozhukarai municipal chairman takes oath, assumes office

Pondicherry, Jul 12: Mr N S J Jayapal of the Congress, elected as Ozhukarai municipal chairman assumed office at a function held at the police grounds at Gorimedu today.

District Collector Theva Neethi Das administerd the oath of office to Mr Jayapal. Thirty-seven municipal councillors also took oath on the occasion.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao, Education Minister M O H F Shajahan, V Narayansamy and Prof M Ramadass, MPs, Pondicherry municipal chairperson Dr Sreedevi and legislators, were among others, who participated in the function.

Commune panchayat council members, village panchayat presidents and village panchayat ward members of Ariyankuppam, Bahour, Mannadipet, Nettapakkam and Villianur also took oath at different venues today.

Later, the chairman and 37 councillors, who assumed office today assembled at the committee room of Ozhukarai municipality. They observed two minutes silence to mourn the death of Mumbai bomb blast victims.
