Opposition stage walkout in assembly over price rise
Guwahati, Jul 12 (UNI) The entire opposition parties barring the independent members today staged walk out in Asom Assembly when their adjournment motions on the issue of price rise was summarily disallowed by the Speaker Tanka Bahadur Rai.
The speaker in his ruling said there was enough scope for discussion on the matter during the budget discussion and another motion was already moved under Rule 54 of the Procedure of Conduct of Business in the House.
Opposition parties Asom Gana Parishad, Bharatiya Janata Party, Asom United Democratic Front, CPI and CPI(M) had moved separate adjournment motions to force a discussion in the house as prices of essential commodities, including building materials, have shown a tremendous increase in the state during the past few months.
The speaker announced that he has received the adjournment motions, but the motion has been disallowed as there was scope for discussion on the issue during the next few days. He neither sought the views of the Parliamentary Affairs Minister on the admissibility of the motion nor allowed the movers to speak on it.
As the motion was straightway rejected, members of the opposition parties announced that they have no option, but to walkout and left the House.
