Nathpa shuts down again; Resmues functioning

Shimla, Jul 12 (UNI) The country's largest hydel power project Nathpa Jhakri resumed power generation early morning today after being closed down late last night following an increase in the silt level, an official spokesman today said.

The plant was closed down at 2330 hrs yesterday night after the silt level increased beyond the permissible limit of 4,000 parts per million (ppm) and resumed power generation this morning at about 1000 hrs, he said.

The spokesman said five of a the six units of 250 MW each resumed functioning today, while the sixth unit, which had not yet been synchronized, was likely to start generation soon.

The prestigious 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri power project resumed power generation yesterday after remaining closed for about three days, causing a loss of over Rs 25 crore to the Centre and Himachal Pradesh government, which has a 25 per cent stake in it.

He said the plant had already exceeded its target by over 102 million units (MUs) between April one and July 11 this year though there was a shortfall of 81 MUs between July one and 11 due to the plant remaining closed for two and half days recently.

The plant produced 284 MUs between July one and 11 this month against a target of 365 MU, adding that it produced 2,698 MUs in all from April one till July 11, the spokesman added.
