M M Lakhera to be the next governor of Mizoram
Aizawl, July 12 (UNI) Lt. General Madan Mohan Lekhera, lieutenant governor of Pondicherry, is likely to be the new governor of Mizoram here.
Official sources here today confirmed that President A P J Abdul Kalam has signed his appointment order on july 10.
Mr Lakhera is scheduled to arrive here on July 24 to take charge of his new office while the outgoing governor A.R.Kohli is expected to bid farewell on July 22.
Born in 1937, Lakhera was commissioned in the Army from the Indian Military Academy in 1958 after finishing MSc (Military science) and MSc (Ballistic) from the National Defence Academy.
He was adjutant General of Indian Army during June 1993 to October 1995, and took part in Goa Operations 1961 and Indo-Pak conflict in 1965 and 1971.
He had been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 1995.
He joined Indian National Congress after retiring from army and had held the post of AICC's ex-servicemen cell chairman.
The Congress-led UPA government had recently appointed him Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry.
