LF postpones anti-price hike programme for Mumbai

Kolkata, July 12 (UNI) The Left Front today deferred their proposed countrywide week-long agitation programme against price hike due to blasts in Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir.

Left Front Chairman and CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose told newspersons here,''We had decided to organise countrywide anti-price hike agitation programme against the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) on July 13 and 19 but it cannot be organised alone because it is an all India programme, which also includes Mumbai and Jammu Kashmir.'' Mr Bose said, ''All the travel agencies have cancelled their tours. These incidents are aimed at destablising tourism, since it is the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir.'' The Left Front parties decided to cancel its first chapter of anti-price hikes programme, which was scheduled from July 13 and 19.

It has been postponed to July 17 and 19, Mr Bose said.

The Left Front leader said that from July 13 to 16, the LF parties will organise silent processions for the blasts and appeal to people for maintaining peace and communal harmony while from July 17 to 19, it would organise the agitation programme.

''We have called an urgent Left Front meeting and would announce our next course of action programme against the Centre tomorrow,'' he said.

Mr Bose informed that Left Front politburo member Sitaram Yechuri and Brinda Karat would visit the blast sites tomorrow.
