Left postpone agitation, to hold silent processions
New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) The Left parties today resolved to hold silent processions and meetings to mobilise public opinion against the resurgence of terrorist violence, while postponing their scheduled four-day countrywide protest action against spiralling price rise from tomorrow.
The change in the agitation programme was necessitated in the wake of serial bomb blasts in Mumbai and grenade attacks in Srinagar yesterday that had claimed about 200 lives and injured hundreds, the Left parties said in a joint statement here.
Now the agitation will be organised between July 17 to 19.
''The terrorists' aim of disrupting peace and communal harmony must be foiled,'' the CPI(M), CPI, Forward Bloc and RSP said.
They also asked the Centre and the state governments to take effective steps to contain the violence, which, they said, was designed to rip apart the country's social fabric and throw normal life out of gear.
