K'taka Council condemns Mumbai, Srinagar bomb blasts

Bangalore, July 12 (UNI) The Karnataka Legislative Council today condemned the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, which killed more than 150 innocent people, and Srinagar, where eight people were killed, yesterday.

Council Officiating Chairman Sachidananda Khot, moving the obituary reference, said it was sad that Mumbai had become a target of the terrorist attack. ''This is an inhuman act committed by militants and needs to be condemned in the strongest terms.'' Leader of the House and Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy praised the residents of Mumbai for coming forward to help the fellow citizens during the emergency situation.

Leader of the Opposition H K Patil, Mr M P Nadagouda (JD-U), Prof B K Chandrashekhar (Congress) and several others said Bangalore had become a safe haven for terrorists and urged the State Government to take adequate measures to check the trend.

The House observed a minute's silence to pay homage to the departed souls.

Earlier, the Opposition Congress withdrew its dharna following a reqest from the Chair to move the obituary reference.
