Blasts: Surat diamond industry to observe bandh
Surat, Jul 13: Over two lakh workers in 3,400 diamond units here will abstain from work today as a mark of respect for those killed in Tuesday's serial blasts in Mumbai's suburban trains on the Western network.
According to Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) president Pravin Nanavati, at least one diamond broker was killed and five others related to the industry were affected in the blasts.
''Around 20 to 22 people travel daily to Mumbai in connection with diamond-related work and we assume that at least six people are affected in the blasts,'' he said.
The body of diamond broker, identified as Babubhai Bhulbhai Vagani(45) who was a resident of Ved road in the city, was brought here yesterday.
Meanwhile, sources in district collectorate said that the details of the affected Surtis in the Mumbai blasts was yet to be known.
