Delhi to get all its new flyovers/bridges before Commonwealth Games

New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Work on all projects of flyovers/bridges in the capital would be put on fast track to enable completion before the Commonwealth Games, Delhi government said today.

Instructions had been issued to the concerned Engineers to get the pending projects cleared from Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to enable the Public Works Department to initiate construction work at the earliest, an official spokesman said.

Work on six projects -- flyovers at Mukarba Chowk, Naraina, Neela Hauz and Mangolpuri besides the ITO chungi underpass and an under bridge connecting road no. 58 and 64 -- would commence before the year end, he said.

The instructions were issued at a meeting of all Chief Engineers of the PWD and senior officers from DUAC and the DDA presided over by Delhi Urban Development and PWD Minister A K Walia. The Minister said all such infrastructure projects should be put on fast track to enable completion by the end of 2009.

The construction of three flyovers between NH-8 and IIT on Outer Ring Road, Azadpur flyover and Shastri Park grade separator would start in the first quarter of next year.

The DUAC had cleared projects relating to Naraina flyover, ITO chungi underpass, Shastri Park grade separator and under bridge connecting road no.58 and 64 whereas the technical committee of DDA had given its nod for construction of three flyovers between NH-8 on Outer Ring Road, Azadpur flyover and Mangolpuri flyover.

Projects relating to road no 56 near ISBT Anand Vihar, flyover at NH-24 near Gazipur drain, flyover at GT Road near Shyamlal College, flyover at Apsara Border on GT road, UP link road clover leaf on NH-24 crossing, Nangloi NH-10, Jwala Heri junction near Behra Enclave, Raja Ram Kohli Marg and Shastri Park Pushta Road intersection were under active consideration of DDA technical committee.

Projects relating to Link Road NH-24 bypass, elevated East-West corridor, flyover on BSZ Marg and Ring Road bypass from Salimgarh Fort to Veldrome Road were ready for submission with technical committee of DDA, the spokesman said.
