CPWD needs to change to compete with private, Govt organisations
New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy today said the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has to undergo change to compete with the private sector as well as other Government organisations.
''The department has to have a fresh approach to achieve not only client satisfaction but client delight....it has to change from that of a proprietary, Government construction agency to a competitive mode where it has to compete not only with other Government organisations but also with Private Sector,'' Mr Reddy said during his inaugural address on CPWD Day here.
He said CPWD managers, including the Urban Development Ministry, have to play a positive role to utilize unparalleled opportunities and to face challenges.
Mr Reddy said the issue of empowering the Department, so that it is able to manage its affairs in amore efficient manner, had been raised many times.
''I fully subscribe to the view that responsibility, authority and accountability must go hand in hand....I am going to examine the issue raised in its totality and would like to put in place a system which will empower the department and make it stronger,'' he added.
