Court approves withdrawal of 1992 riot case against 42 accused
Varanasi, July 12 (UNI) The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) has put its affirmative seal on the district administration plea of withdrawing case against 42 accused in the 1992 communal riots in Lohta area.
The permission was given by CJM P N Srivastava yesterday on a district administration plea filed on July 1.
According to prosecution, case of rioting was lodged on December 9, 1992 against 80 people -- 48 of whom belonged to minority community -- in connection with post Ayodhya demolition riots in Mehmoodpur village of Lohta area of the district.
After investigation, 42 accused were charge-sheeted in 1993, but their prosecution was later stayed by the Allahabad High Court.
Later, the HC vacated its stay and the trial in the case began.
