Hyderabad, Jul 12: Congress MLA P Janardhana Reddy has won a 11-year legal battle on his arrest during the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) rule in 1995.

After 11 years of hearing on the charge sheet, the MLA won the case when the judge pronounced his verdict on June 14 declaring the arrest illegal and arbitrary and ordered a token compensation Rs 1000 be paid to him by the state.

Talking to newsmen here today, Mr Reddy said he was illegally arrested when he tried to stop the demolition of huts in Gyani Zail Singh Nagar Colony in his Khairatabad Constituency during the TDP regime.

He said the TDP Government headed by Former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao tried to demolish the huts and give the land to the rich. He When he protested and tried to prevent the demolition, he was arrested and sent to Musheerabad Jail. Later, he filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the arrest.

The TDP Government issued 5000 house site pattas to the slum dwellers in 1997-98 due to the pressure mounted on it by the Congress Party MLAs, he claimed.
