Bharti demands all-party meeting on terrorism
New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) Bharatiya Janshakti Party chief Uma Bharti today demanded that the Prime Minister convene an all-party meeting to define terrorism and discuss effective strategies to tackle it.
Repeated terrorist strikes showed that the country lacked an effective strategy to tackle the menace, she said in a statement condemning the Mumbai blasts.
The country ought to be strong internally before it could aspire to super power status, she said. ''On the one hand our relations with world powers is improving and on the other hand our internal security situation is precarious,'' she said.
The Government should declare terrorism as a national tragedy, and rising above party affiliations, all leaders should come together to discuss the issue and devise a strategy to stop further attacks of the Mumbai type, she said.
Ms Bharti said she had written a letter to the Prime Minister raising the demand.
