BDR resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian side
Agartala, Jul 12 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the entire North Tripura District's headquarters of Kailahahar since last evening after Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian side after a notorious smuggler was injured by the patroling Border Security Force (BSF).
According to official sources here today, a group of five notorious Bangladeshi smugglers with smuggled goods sneaked into Kailashahar close to the international border with Bangladesh on Monday.
Seeing them, patroling BSF jawans moved on to nab them, but they immediately attacked the security jawans on duty with sharp weapons.
The jawans however, managed to escape unhurt and retaliated on self-defence injuring one notorious smuggler. The other members of the gang managed to cross over to neighbouring country.
The BDR, however, resorted to unprovoked firing since last evening noticing that one of their citizen was injured by the BSF jawans. The BDR strengthened its forces opposite to Indian side.
Soon after the BDR firing, tension prevailed in the entire district town. The BSF jawans are maintaining a close watch on the situation. There was, however, no report of any more firing by the BDR so far.
