AIKS demands centre to amend Agrl Crop Insurance Scheme

Vijayawada, Jul 12 (UNI) The All India Kishan Sabha (AIKS) today demanded the centre to amend the National Agricultural Crop Insurance Scheme (NACIS).

Addressing a press conference here, AIKS Vice-President Kolli Nageswara Rao said the present crop insurance scheme is very defective and not useful to farmers who lost the crops in natural calamities.

Mr.Rao said following the crop loss, the farmers were not in a position to get any compensation from the government and some are only getting meagre compensation. The farmers were also committing suicides as they are not in a position to clear the debts, he pointed out.

Normally if the farmers face the crop loss, they are bounded to get compensation, he said but even a single farmer was not getting compensation and reminded that when only the whole mandal was lost, the government is paying compensation scheme between Rs 100 to Rs 1000 to the farmers.

As the present scheme was not useful to farming community, the farmers and the farmers organisations were demanding to amend the scheme in a useful manner for present farmer, he said.

He said the AIKS was demanding that a premium of 80 per cent should be paid by the centre and asked the state government to provide compensation to eligible farmers for crop loss.

The AIKS will fight through agitations if the demands were not fulfilled. He also appealed to the farming community to be prepared for achieving this.
