Advani describes serial blasts as 'Repeat of 1993', demands POTA

Ahmedabad, July 11 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani tonight described the serial blasts in Mumbai as a 'Repeat of 1993' and blamed the Congress-led government at the Centre for the failure in internal security in the country.

Addressing an impromtu news conference here, he drew similarities between underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who is wanted for serial blasts and other grave crimes in India, and Osama bin Laden.

Mr Advani, who cancelled his flight to Delhi to attend a party meeting in the capital tomorrow morning, decided to stay back here for a night halt and is likely to fly to Mumbai by the first flight tomorrow morning.

He said it is high time the Centre should invoke the stringent laws like the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) or frame even more stringent laws.

He assured the Centre of the Opposition's support to contain and counter terrorism, saying people would extend all possible support to the government, but the initiative has to come from latter.

Mr Advani was in the city in connection with the inauguaration of a flyover in the evening, named after one of the founder-members of earstwhile Jana Sangh Vasant Gajendragadkar, built at a cost of Rs 14-crore.
